Apparently, the old cliché is true; your car actually does say a lot about you and your fundamental human nature – and there you were thinking it was all about picking the best family car based on its headroom and mpg figures!
Well; not a bit of it! Apparently, it’s all in the subconscious you see, so even if you think you’re being terribly logical in your car choice – you probably aren’t. Instead, you’re being true to your fundamental inner nature – you just aren’t aware of it.
Nowhere is this more contentious than in the fundamental difference between the sexes. While women are nest-makers, men, it is said, possess a ceaseless desire for freedom. Consequently – many men make women feel insecure while women make men feel trapped and we all try and compensate in our car choices. Hey – don’t shoot me for this sexism; I’m just the messenger here!
So, for example, where a woman may choose a safe and cosy “nest” of a car which also ranks very highly in the safe and secure stakes, men are more likely to pick a gas-guzzling monster 4×4, for example – as their inner nature would like to be driving a tank into battle, or a two-seater open top sports car which is all about selfishness and attracting a mate; albeit temporarily.
For men, cars are an iconic status symbol. For women – they’re a means of transport for themselves and the people they care for.
This kind of thing explains why women have fewer accidents on the road than men, of course; they’re calmer and more safety-conscious, on the whole…
You see, everything about these kinds of generalisations is based on the majority. There are always exceptions.
So how do you safely drive a car that doesn’t reveal your inner-most subconscious thoughts and feelings to the world? That’s easy; question yourself about exactly why you really want the car you currently desire. What kind of image are you hoping it will create in the eyes of others?
Then … simply go out and buy a hybrid car to let the world know you’re the clean, green and caring type; that will really impress members of the opposite sex!
